about

"If the smoke should block out the north Jersey sky and you can't even see the stars, I'd tear them all down and lay them at your feet"

This song is a highly romanticized version of the events that took place with a girl I liked, who was from Massachusetts. I felt like I had some sort of really special connection with her, but looking back, it really wasn't very special at all. I only knew her for a few months before she moved back to Massachusetts, and this song is more just me mourning over a relationship that never actually happened.

I feel that this childish naivete actually ended up resulting in a really great song though, and this one is actually one of my favorites that I've written.

There's even references to Aladdin, Starcraft, and Weezer in the lyrics of this song!

lyrics

Nearly 10:30 pm
Pulling into the Bloomfield station lot
Delivering you to be taken away
When the train makes it's final stop
Turn the music down low to say our goodbyes
I wasn't ready
I can't lie
Choosing every word and syllable
Carefully stalling for time

So please, please, don't get on that train
Cause I just might never see you again
Oh please, please, don't get on that train
Cause I just might never ever see you again
Oh Catherine

Oh I may just be a lowly street rat
I may not be like the intellectuals and scholars up in Boston
And all I can offer to you
Is every industrial skyline and factory
And I know that it's naive
But if the smoke should block out
The north Jersey sky and you can't even see the stars
I'd tear them all down and lay them at your feet

So please, please, don't get on that train
Cause I just might never see you again
Oh please, please, don't get on that train
Cause I just might never ever see you again
Oh Catherine

And I can feel the world rumbling now
As the metal goliath comes to tear my world down
And I just can't stand the sound
Of that whistle telling me that you're leaving town
And all that I could do as you left
Was turn up the radio
And let Rivers Cuomo sing to me
The whole way home
Cause how stupid is it
For all I know, I may never see you again
Oh Catherine
